MEASURING YOUR DOG

To ensure a perfect fit for your perfect pooch, we’ll need a few different measurements from your dog depending on the type of collar.

(A)

(B)

NECK MEASUREMENT

For all collars, you’ll want to measure around the dog’s neck (A) where you would like the collar to sit.

  • Using a tape measure, wrap the tape around the dog’s neck.

If your pup is nervous placing something around their neck, go slow! Use lots of treats and praise along the way!

  • Place two fingers under the tape measure and pull snugly.

For dogs with thick coat, be sure to part the hair to ensure a proper measurement.

  • Record your measurement!

Your provided measurement will be the middle hole for traditional buckle closure collars or center adjustment of side release collars. For slip collars, continue below.

HEAD MEASUREMENT

For slip collars that slide over the head, we’ll also need to measure the widest point of your pup’s head (B).

  • Using a tape measure, wrap the tape around the dog’s head at the widest point.

Don’t forget the ears! Use two fingers under the tape measure to give allowance for ears or measure over top of them.

  • Pull the tape measure snug.

  • Record your measurement!

For slip collars, you will list your dog’s neck size as the largest of the two measurements (A or B). This will be the exact size of your slip collar.

MEASURING AN EXISTING COLLAR

You can also obtain your dog’s neck measurement from their current collar! Follow the instructions below to be sure you get an accurate length based on the type of collar you have.

SIDE RELEASE COLLAR

Be sure that the collar is adjusted to a size that fits your dog best.

Measure the length from the tip of the female end of the buckle to the base of the male end of the buckle.

NOTE: Measuring the collar end-to-end will provide an inaccurate measurement! This is due to the buckle clipping inside itself.

Record your measurement!

If purchasing a slip collar, you will need to also measure your pup’s head circumference. Please see instructions above!

TRADITIONAL BUCKLE COLLAR

Be sure to note which hole on the collar fits your dog best.

Measure the length from the center or base of the buckle where the material folds over to the hole that your dog wears.

NOTE: Measuring the collar from the top of the buckle will provide an inaccurate measurement!

Record your measurement!

If purchasing a slip collar, you will need to also measure your pup’s head circumference. Please see instructions above!
